The Man vs. The Artist: A preview of Kizz Daniel’s Sophomore Album “No Bad Songz”

Every great artist in history has had their lows and highs; Flyboy INC. boss and frontline act Kizz Daniel is no different. The former G-Worldwide singer most notably got into a legal tussle with the aforementioned label after announcing last year that he was leaving to start his own imprint. A major highlight of his career was carting home 3 major awards at the 2016 Headies after missing out on the Next Rated award the previous year. It appears his career has grown in leaps and bounds since then.

Kizz Daniel’s forthcoming album has been titled No Bad Songz which alludes to the fact that he has not released a song which has been widely criticized, because let’s face it, the subjective nature of music makes it difficult for everyone to like each song. The artwork for this forthcoming album which was released last week is a brilliant illustration which plays on imagery sum up Kizz Daniel’s career so far, a case of the man himself versus the artist.

As most people tend to forget, artists themselves are human beings and go through most of the life struggles other humans do. This was highlighted with the “angel” and “devil” trying to whisper into his ears. As humans, some of the things we go through are easier dealt with the right people around, but how do you sift the bad from the good, the honest friends from the ones that just stick around for their gains?

On the other hand, even while facing all the problems in his personal life, the artwork paints a picture on an artist who goes through it all as a human but still squarely faces the music and churns out premium content for his teeming fans. His debut album, New Era had three previously released singles that had brought him major fame. The result was a very deserves Album of the Year award at the aforementioned 2016 Headies. He has gone one since then to put up quite an awesome repertoire. Let’s go through them, shall we? Sofa, Yeba, No Do, 4Dayz, For You featuring Wizkid not to mention prominent features on DJ Spinall’s Baba, DJ Neptune’s Wait and Seyi Shay’s Surrender.

Let’s face it, through the highs and lows of his career; winning awards, tearing up shows or slugging it in court with his ex-label, the only constant remains the music which has been top notch. Can we expect same of No Bad Songz? Well, time will be the eventual judge of posterity. We can also expect major collaborations which were missing on his New Era (still a pretty awesome body of work) album.

I’m Not Working For President Buhari – Banky W Denies N200 Million Commission Fee

Banky W has reacted to the report that himself, Simi and Debola Lagos of Red Media were commissioned with N200 Million to work for President Buhari’s re-election bid.

The singer alongside other popular figures in the entertainment industry were said to have been commissioned to launch a N67MillionYouth project to “sell” President Buhari to Nigerian youths as the candidate to vote for in the 2019 Presidential election.

Banky W has come out on Twitter, not to deny the existence of the reported initiative but to say that it is 100% free of government influence, as against the initial report. He also stated that the project has no ties with any government administration and that there is no pay involved.

I Will Be Bigger Than Wizkid & Davido – Singer, L.A.X

L.A.X recently had an exclusive interview with Star Tracker. During the interview he made a bold claim that he would be bigger than Wizkid and Davido in the next one year.

The interview started with questions about the singer’s current projects. He spoke about his forthcoming album and what to expect from the project, before going on to state his big target for the next 12 months.

Read the excerpt of the interview below:

What new projects are you working on at the moment?

“Right now I’m working on my album. Last year I was working on it but I lost my hard drive on which I had close to 90 songs on. This happened early last year after I dropped ‘Run away’. I felt like there was a reason I lost those songs, so I focused on creating a new sound for myself. So when you hear my music now you will notice that the sound is different from what I had on ‘Caro’ or ‘Ginger’. It’s now a different vibe all together. I just felt like that is the direction God wants me to go. Right now my album is on the way and it will be ready before the end of the year.”

Why didn’t you follow the trend now by dropping an EP instead of an album?

“There are so many reasons I’m putting out an album. First, I haven’t put out a body of work and I have been in the game for a while now. Also, I feel like because of my transition I have to drop a body of work for people to understand my new sound. I record almost every day so I have a lot of songs and they are not supposed to be seating on my laptop. I’m supposed to let people hear the amazing music I have. So that’s why I think I should drop an album. I actually have like five albums.”

Any notable collaboration?

“Yes. I have one with Davido, Young Bin from UK, Daddy Showkey (which is going to be a classic) and I also have one with Victoria Kimani.”

Why Daddy Showkey?

“When I recorded the song it had something about Daddy Showkey’s lyrics. So, when my manager heard it he thought of putting Daddy Showkey on it because it will help in preventing copyright infringement scandal.”

Where do you see yourself in the next one year?

“I will be as big as Wizkid and Davido, even bigger than them. There’s nobody that can’t be. I let my music speak for me, I have sat with people that won’t lie to me, people that are bigger than me and when they listen to my songs it’s the same feedback.”

Good Sound Or Good Lyrics: Which One Is Better?

The Nigerian music industry has definitely grown as it has been exploring different music sounds due to the growth in number of producers, artistes and songwriters.

For any song to be considered a good song, it needs to have both good sound and meaningful lyrics. Although, some songs that have being released in recent times have a very nice sound courtesy of the producer, but the artiste fails to deliver good or even meaningful lyrics. So also some artistes have meaningful lyrics but they are lacking good sound.

Surprisingly, people still vibe to these songs like that, which brings us to our question.

Good sound or good lyrics, which one does it for you?

Fake Love VS Amaka: Which Is Hotter?

Two hot songs that have found their way to the top of the playlist in recent weeks are Duncan Mighty’s Fake Love and 2baba’s Amaka.

While the Wizkid factor has given the former much prominence, the later is as well a melodious tune with dope vibes from DMW’s Peruzzi.

With the two still fighting for the number 1 spot, which will you pick?

Simi has reacted to a publication on Leadership Newspaper, claiming that herself, Banky W and Debola Lagos of Red Media were contracted with N200 Million to launch #67MillionYouth initiative for Buhari’s re-election bid.

The X3M music songstress reacted via a thread of tweets, vehemently denying her involvement in the said project. Simi denied having knowledge of a plan to work for the re-election of the incumbent President. She dissociated herself from the project.

Reminisce “Faize Yi” Is An Epic Fail At Making A Hit Song . . My Thoughts

Aunty o da pe, mo mo Faize yi
Bhet, I can’t really place it
Eyan Soskaja, Eyan Van Nistelrooy

The music industry seems to be at a loss for what the next big sound should be. This disarray is now being expressed in our music as many artistes have resorted to experiment affairs has given rise to experiments being carried out by our . While some are still busy striking rock in their quest for that “one hit” some others have seized the moment to simply enjoy this experimental stage, taking it one song at a time. And we think this is what Reminisce sought to do on his new record “Faize Yi” with Falz and Shody. Find our remarks on the song below.

@dahnielz Reminisce’s Faize Yi is the new lamba song coming in as the trend further hones. Let’s just say Reminisce was trying to do “Something Light” on this record. But unlike Something Light, this record actually lacks a proper story-line. The delivery, or should I say lamba improvisation; eyan solkajear, eyan vanisterooy, mo mo faize yi… are inconsequential. It all sounds like an inside joke between these artistes, but only we the listeners are not getting it. The instrumental was basic coupled with the fact that Shody’s presence or absence on the record was not even noticed.

Faize Yi is a Falz-type sound which means he alone could have done justice to the record.

Rating: 2

@manlikeyhusuff The art of making good music can never be over emphasized, be it a tool to raising awareness or social consciousness, one has to be clear and concise, yet not ignoring the fun aspect.

On Faize Yi, Remininsce tries to create some social consciousness on some of the ills of the society like promiscuity but he fails woefully on this as this sole aim begets a joke instead of passing the message intended.

Falz on the other hand, brings nothing captivating on the song as he just sluggishly drops below par lyrics on the already foggy song. Theturnupking shouldn’t have been featured on this as he does nothing to salvage the song.

But the instrumental from Sess should be applauded as it could easily get one nodding to the record but that still defeats the purpose of the ensemble.

Rating: 2.5

Is Mayorkun Ripe For A Debut Album?

An organic growth in career is what every artiste yearns for from the moment they drop their first ever hit single. This has been the case of a young Mayorkun whose career started out with a bang. 2016 was the year that introduced the DMW signee and he used little or no effort to shoot his way to the top.

Since then, Mayorkun has gone to release over 5 hit singles including; Love You Tire, Sade, MamaChe Che and his latest effort Bobo. The singer’s use of word play has given him an edge over others and this style continues to work for him.

After moving from a Rookie to Next Rated, Mayorkun started out his 2018 year by announcing that he is working on his debut album, which is expected to drop sometime this year. The singer has done so well in little time and this is something that rarely happens for many in the music industry. At this year’s Wireless Concert in the UK, the 40,000 guests present at the outdoor music event went wild chorusing word for word, the lyrics to most (if not all) of Mayorkun’s songs. This attests to the fact that the singer has expanded his tentacles beyond African shores. His recent show in Ibadan further reiterates his strength with an ability to pull as much as 13,000 people for a show.

However, with all these accolades mentioned, his album drop announcement still raises some eyebrows. It begs the question as to whether it is time to push for a Mayorkun album.

Do you think Mayorkun should drop an album now or wait a little longer for it?

Share your thoughts below.

Violence & Reckless Sex Mars Mayorkun’s Ibadan Concert?

According to an online report, Mayorkun’s recently held Ibadan concert was marred with cases of violence and reckless sex incidents.

The report has it that a journalist was severely beaten by one of the security detail of Mayorkun’s label boss, Davido. The said journalist was rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH), where he was revived, according to the report. The cause of the assault on the journalist was said to be because he approached Davido for an interview.

However, before the journalist who was said to wear an evident access tag could meet up with Davido, he was taken down by the singer’s bodyguard  and he lost consciousness in the process. He was allegedly left with a swollen face and his equipment damaged.

The source also claimed that people had reckless sex, while the concert was going on.

These reports are still wild rumors circulating online, they are yet to be validated. It is expected that the DMW camp would make a statement to address this story.

Kizz Daniel Refused To Work With Reekado Banks On “Selense” – Singer, Harrysong

Singer, Harrysong, has finally cleared the air on why he recorded another version of his song, Selense, with Iyanya and Dice Ailes; after releasing the first version on which he featured Kizz Daniel and Reekado Banks.

It came as a shock that the singer stopped the promotion of the original version of the song. It was generally believed that the singer took offence with Kizz Daniel’s verse on the song, claiming to be the biggest artiste in the country.

Harrysong has however come out to correct that thought. The singer said he didn’t take offence with Kizz Daniel’s claim. The Reggae Blues singer said he was upset because Kizz Daniel refused to work on any song with Reekado Banks.

Speaking through his manager, Desmond Ike, Harrysong said, “It wasn’t about what Kizz Daniel said on the song; there is nothing out of place about it. When you do something with people and they don’t make it easy for you, you have to look for a way to sort yourself out. Harrysong originally did the song with Reekado Banks and Kizz Daniel but at a point, Daniel said he didn’t want to star in the video because Reekado would be in it. He said he didn’t want to have anything to do with Reekado. We tried to sort out the issue between both of them so that we could shoot the video but Daniel refused vehemently; he didn’t want any reconciliation. Because of that, we decided to do another version of the song with Iyanya and Dice Ailes. Kizz Daniel was just being arrogant about the whole thing and behaving like he is a demigod.”

Maintaining that Harrysong’s camp was unaware of the source of the bad blood between Reekado and Kizz, Desmond stated, “We don’t really know the issue between them but it must be a long-standing feud. He said he didn’t want to be on any song that Reekado was featured on. He refused all our entreaties.”

On whether Kizz Daniel wasn’t aware that Reekado Banks was featured on the song when he recorded his verse, Ike said, “They recorded their verses separately. The moment he realised that Banks was on the song was when he started saying he didn’t want to be a part of it anymore. We initially thought it was something we could resolve amicably as friends in the industry but Daniel insisted that he didn’t want to be part of it. He frustrated every move to reconcile them. Kizz Daniel even made the song to be pulled from iTunes, claiming that he did not give his consent for his voice to be used; that was how far he went. We had no choice but to look for a way out.”

Ike said the performance of the song had shown that no one should think too highly of himself or herself.  “Right now, the song is doing very well on the charts. That shows that no one is indispensable. Everybody likes the new version. We have done all we were supposed to do and we have moved on. We cannot beg Daniel because Harrysong is bigger than all that,” he added.
