Breakdown of Over Dem by Davido Lyrics

African superstar, Davido‘s fourth studio album titled “Timeless” officially dropped on March 31, 2023. The “Timeless” album was made available via Sony Music Entertainment, Columbia Records, and Davido Music Worldwide (DMW). This project has 17 songs, which also include collaborations with Skepta, Angelique Kidjo, Asake, Focalistic, The Cavemen, etc.

This is a scenario an average person may relate to while listening to this melodious tune as Davido highlights the hurdles he had to face, the enmity he has come across, God`s being on his side, and his undisputed win. At the end of every season, everyone hopes to come out on top. With that being the major theme of the opening track of the Timeless album, this is a mood one would enjoy vibing and relating to.

The delivery of this track is so surreal but did we expect anything less from one of the greatest African music ambassadors of this generation? Davido put work into this new project, Timeless. The elite production he utilized is quite evident throughout the album, Over Dem stands out as unique too, we hear Davido singing with ease on this tune. With a calm tune that soothes the ear, Davido dropped a masterpiece as an opening track here.

Replay Value

The replay value of Over Dem is pretty lit, the anticipation of the project as a whole gives the opening track interesting attention already. You just miss this aura of Davido`s music, so you just get to rinse and repeat this new music over and over. Timeless is a collection of 17 songs, but you may just find yourself going over to the top before the whole album time runs out – yes, over dem is that good!

Chuck D Speaks Up in Madonna’s Defense

Chuck D knows all about the rigors of performing your songs four decades on. That might explain why the 63-year-old Public Enemy frontman took to X early Thursday morning (Jan. 4) to defend Madonna against ageist trolls who’ve complained about the singer’s performance on her career-spanning Celebration Tour.

“At 63 i know i can bike better than i ever did and Pilates aint easy but i give it to @Madonna for pushing the bars,” D said of the 65-year-old “Vogue” singer. “ @FlavorFlav is taking Pilates too and hes 64,” D added of his excitable hype man.

“So ageism sometimes gets like racism both ways if you let it. For anyone over 50 the rule is either you do the songs or the songs do you. @Madonna has some hard songs to perform in her catalogue.”

While it was unclear why D posted his comment, it came after an X user posted a clip on Wednesday of Madonna performing “Ray of Light” during one of her Celebration concerts while tethered to a grab bar on a square platform the singer uses to hover well above the arena floor.

The not-unusual safety measure is often employed for such a high-flying stunt and the close-up video in question does not give the full context of how far off the ground Madonna is during the song.

Madonna and Public Enemy have a long history, dating back to the singer’s 1990 The Immaculate Collection greatest hits album, which featured the slinky “Justify My Love.”

At press time it did not appear that Madonna has responded to D’s post.

Suspicious: Davido and Tiwa Savage Unfollow each other on IG

The once cherished friendship between music sensations Davido and Tiwa Savage appears to be strained once again following their recent decision to unfollow each other on Instagram.

The parents whose children share a close friendship, are no longer united on social media platforms and have shown diminished support for each other’s brands compared to the past.

A quick check on both their Instagram pages unveiled that the once rosy friendship may have hit the rock once again.

While many are attempting to decipher the root cause of this renewed separation, some speculate a connection to Sophia Momodu, Davido’s first baby mama, who maintains a close relationship with Tiwa.

Some suggested that Davido may be jealous towards the growing bond between the two women, while others propose that Tiwa initiated the unfollowing after witnessing what she perceived as Davido’s inadequate treatment of Imade.

Harrysong encouraged his fans and followers to address him as Honourable Superstar Harrysong, reintroducing himself while sharing the good news online and his appointment letter.

He conveyed his gratitude to his Governor, RT Hon. Sheriff F.O Oborevwori for giving him the position to work in.

John Michael Montgomery Bids Farewell to the Road

The “Life’s a Dance” hitmaker revealed via his official Facebook page on Monday (Jan. 1), that his 2024-2025 tour dates will serve as his farewell tour as he winds down his touring career.

“It’s been a wonderful run for me from the beginning over 30 years ago in 1992 when my first song ‘Life’s a Dance’ was released to radio I think either as a 45 vinyl or on a cassette tape, CDs had not quite taken over the market yet and the internet was still in its infancy,” Montgomery recalled in his Facebook post.

“It amazes me where it is today,” he added. “I’ve been fortunate and blessed to be able to do what I love for so many years so please join me on my journey as I say goodbye to the road life. And thanks so much for your support for the last 3 decades, it’s meant so much me.”

Montgomery’s post did not state a specific reason for his decision to wind down his touring. A representative for Montgomery did not respond to a request for comment.

Currently, Montgomery has concerts slated for 2024 in January, March, April, May and October.

The Kentucky native made his breakthrough with the 1993 top 5 Hot Country Songs hit “Life’s a Dance,” and won the Country Music Association’s Horizon Award in 1994.

He would go on to add seven No. 1 Hot Country Songs hits to his resume, starting with the three-week No. 1 “I Love the Way You Love Me.” His romantic ballad, “I Swear,” became a four-week Hot Country Songs hit No. 1 in 1994 and crossed over onto the all-genre Hot 100, reaching No. 42.

The song won a CMA Award for single of the year, and nabbed Montgomery a Grammy nomination for best male country vocal performance. R&B group All-4-One recorded a version of the song, taking it to No. 1 on the Hot 100.

Jazz Icon Leslie ‘Les’ McCann Dies at 88

Leslie “Les” McCann, an exceptional jazz pianist, composer and vocalist who discovered a young Roberta Flack, and whose own works have been sampled by countless hip-hop artists, died last Friday (Dec. 29) at the age of 88.

Born into a musical family, Sept. 23, 1935 in Lexington, Kentucky, McCann would become one of jazz music’s “most gifted and influential artists,” reads a statement from Kevin Gore, president of Global Catalog, Recorded Music for Warner Music Group.

An early hit came with “The Shampoo,” the 1963 instrumental cut with his trio for Pacific Jazz Records.

McCann would enjoy a fruitful relationship with Atlantic Records, releasing a dozen albums on the label from the late-‘60s through to the mid-‘70s.

A stroke in the 1990s slowed McCann’s output. So he channeled his energies into painting and photography, and he recovered for a string of music releases, including Pump It Up from 2002.

Gore remembers McCann as a great of jazz, the creator of “timeless” works. “While we deeply mourn his passing,” Gore continues, “his music will live on in the hearts of millions of music fans across the globe.”

According to WABC, police are investigating the incident as a possible act of terrorism. The incident took place around 12:50 a.m. as around 1,000 people were leaving the band’s Dec. 31 show.

The force of the crash reportedly caused the two vehicles to plow through a group of pedestrians as well as two other vehicles, with a large fire breaking out as a result that took nearly an hour to extinguish, according to the report.

Once the fire was extinguished, first responders reportedly found at least a dozen gas canisters in and around the Expedition, prompting a response from the Rochester Police Department’s Bomb Squad and Joint Arson Task Force, as well as the FBI.

Police are reportedly investigating the incident as a possible terrorist attack.

Two people in the Outlander were killed and the unnamed driver was taken to Rochester General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while a number of other pedestrians and a Rochester police officer were also struck by vehicles; one of the three pedestrians was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries while the other two are reportedly in non-life-threatening condition.

On Tuesday morning (Jan. 2), Syracuse.com reported that the total death toll had risen to three, including the alleged driver of the Expedition, whom the New York Post identified as Michael Avery, who reportedly died at 8 p.m. on Monday night.

The band released a statement in response to the crash, writing, “Last night’s events outside the Kodak Center have left us all in profound shock and sadness. On a night that was meant for celebration and togetherness, we are faced instead with a tragedy that defies understanding. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of those who lost their lives, and our thoughts are with those who were injured.”

Moe. thanked the first responders and venue staff for their “swift and courageous” actions securing the safety of fans, as well as their fans, the Famoe.ly, for their support and resilience. “In these moments of confusion and grief, we stand together in solidarity,” the note continued.“We believe in the power of music to heal and unite, and it is in this spirit that we will continue to move forward.”

According to WABC, at press time authorities were still not sure that the crash was a deliberate act of terrorism, but are investigating it as such until they can determine a cause of the accident.

Law enforcement sources told the station that reported Expedition driver Avery was from Syracuse and that he drove his own vehicle to the Syracuse airport, where he rented an extra-large SUV.

The Post additionally reported that Avery allegedly rented a hotel room in Rochester, where investigators are said to have found a suicide note.

Investigators are reportedly combing through the Expedition driver’s social media, as well as interviewing friends and family in search of additional information that might provide clues about why there were so many gas canisters in the vehicle.

Michael Bublé’s Christmas (via Reprise) proves it’s the gift that keeps giving as it heads back to No. 1 on the U.K. albums chart.

The festive hit lifts 2-1 for a sixth non-consecutive week at the summit, to close out the year atop the Official U.K. Albums Chart, published last Friday, Dec. 29.

Christmas first reached the summit of the national tally following its release back in November 2011, returning to the top for two weeks in December that same year, the Official Charts Company reports. Since then, the LP has logged time at No. 1 in January 2021 and December 2022.

According to the OCC, Christmas is home to five of the top 40 biggest Christmas songs of the 21st century in the U.K. –

“It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” (No. 1), “Holly Jolly Christmas” (No. 8), “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” (No. 15), “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” (No. 19), and “Jingle Bells” (No. 20) with the Puppini Sisters.

Michael Bublé holds off Taylor Swift’s former leader 1989 (Taylor’s Version) (via EMI), which lifts 3-2; and The Weeknd’s The Highlights, up 9-3 (via Republic Records/XO), respectively.

Lewis Capaldi Celebrates Improved Wellbeing After Break

Lewis Capaldi is giving fans an update on his mental health after taking a step back from the stage in June.

About six months after announcing that he was going on hiatus from touring, the 27-year-old Scottish musician revealed in a lengthy New Year’s Eve message that he’s noticed an improvement in his overall health but that he’s still not ready to step back into the spotlight.

“As most of you will know, I’m currently taking some time off to focus on my health and wellbeing and it’s been going great!” Capaldi wrote on Instagram Sunday (Dec. 31).

“I’ve been working with some incredible professionals to help me learn about and cope better with my Tourette’s and anxiety issues. I’m really happy to say I’ve noticed a marked improvement in both since I decided to take some time off back in June.”

He continued, “I was completely overwhelmed by the reaction to the news that I was taking a break and genuinely want to thank each and every one of you who reached out, left a comment, tweet or dm wishing me well, the support was like nothing I’ve ever experienced and has made me more excited than ever to return to what I love at some point in the not too distant future.”

In his New Year’s Eve note, the singer also announced that he will be releasing an extended version of his second album, Broken By the Desire to Be Heavenly Sent, at midnight on Monday (Jan. 1). The expanded set will feature five additional songs.

“Prior to my decision to f— off for a bit, I’d always hoped to release an extended version at some point!” Capaldi wrote. “After some back-and-forth about whether or not it was the right thing to do, I’ve decided it would be a shame for these five extra songs, which are so incredibly special to me, to sit on my hard drive, never to see the light of day.”

The “Before You Go” singer-songwriter concluded his message by letting fans know that he plans to remain out of the public eye for the time being.

“For now I’m going to continue taking some time to carry on looking after myself, maybe writing some new music and taking a moment to reflect on some of the most incredible years of my life,” he wrote. “I want to make absolutely sure I’m 100% before getting back out there again properly for more shows and doing what I love more than anything!”
