For someone who continuously does a creation, it is quite necessary that you always feel the pressure of creating what is if not way better but at least to some extent an improvement on what you’ve done previously. This is definitely the case with DJ Spinall regarding the composition of the “Iyanu” album. DJ Spinall already has 3 albums to his name prior to the release of “Iyanu” which did fairly well and I believe served as a pressure on the Superstar DJ serving serious improvement on “Iyanu.” Now let’s go to the album review in proper.
The album is introduced by “Stamina” ft Ceeza & Anaty where the accumulation of wealth and affluence is bragged about after triumphing over ridicule and contempt, “now they want chop for my table, cos I’m on another level.” The KillerTunes produced track passed its test for an album introduction and puts you in that mood to want to continue with the album listening as the artistes featured did justice to the smooth sound production.
The 2nd track on the album is a country kind of music that features Nigerian-American singer; wurld. In this groovy melodious song, there is a revelation about how he could not hide his love for a certain lady, showering her with praises and letting her know he does not want her just for a “short time” but for life.
The 2nd track officially leads us to the track that features the first industry heavyweight on the album; “Serious” ft Burna Boy. The track 3 of the album has Burna Boy calling DJ Spinall’s attention to when they started and as well as reminding him also that they started the music game together. Burna Boy with his Jamaican Patois style delivered well on the Caribbean-like beat.
In track 4 of the album comes a skit featuring a certain Sharon Nasa which quite funnily I am so in love with. In the skit, she started in her amusing British accent, angrily bashing a friend for having not checked on her for certain days and also letting the friend know friendship has to be a “two-way” thing as she always does her own side of checking up on her. But at the end of the whole drama, she still ends with the words; “I miss you that’s all,” reminding some of us of one or two of our ‘crazy’ friends who have nothing but love for us. Though the skit might seem unnecessary to certain people, but it passes an important message about friendship. You’ve got to smile when you listen.
Tekno on track 5 brought back a little memory of Veteran; 9ice’s “Party rider” with lyrics such as “I’m a party rider” & “Call on me I’ll be your fancy, anywhere wherever……” on the well laced mid-tempo Calypso beat, showering a girl with accolades after he is impressed with her body structure and also telling her his own qualities. Tekno very well on this jam and it should be a definite party starter.
DJ Spinall features Wizkid on the track 6 of the album in “Nowo” which was released as a single in February 2018. The song got on many playlists and has been nominated in the “collaboration of the year” category of many music awards already.
“Try for you” ft Nonso Amadi sits at the number 7 position on the album, it’s a love song that talks about the singer expressing his love for a certain girl and how much he’s willing to get her satisfied if she gives-in to his advances. It is a song that will most likely give you the confidence you need to talk to that crush you’ve been shying away from… Great production too.
Track 8 features Davido on “Your DJ,” this song reminds me of the classic released by the defunct group; Styl Plus “Run away,” in which the OBO inculcated in the song’s hook and modified, then turned more into a groovy party starter. This one is definitely for the girls, Fresh and KillerTunes did well on the beat.
Track 9 has one of 2018’s hit songs; “Baba” ft Kizz Daniel. As expected Kizz delivered awesomely on the jam and successfully got everyone’s body vibing to his talent on this song.
The last track is “Omoge” ft Dotman which is track 10 on the album , this is a definite party jam. Dotman who has been ‘missing’ in the music scene for some time now, bossed his sweet cool voice on the song, making it a party favourite.
All in all, I think DJ Spinall’s album is up there with the dopest albums that have been released this year and I give it a pass mark.
