Nigerian singer, Tems has lost her first Oscar Nomination.
Tems was nominated for an Oscars award for co-writing Rihanna’s Lift Me Up. Lift Me Up was used as the official soundtrack for the blockbuster movie, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and it was nominated for “Best Original Song” at the 2023 Oscars.
Sadly, “Lift Me Up” lost the award to “NAATU NAATU” from RRR.
The song, NAATU NAATU is from the Indian blockbuster ‘RRR’ and it was written by composer M.M. Keeravani and lyricist Chandrabose.
“Naatu Naatu” also beat out nominees “Applause” from Tell It like a Woman (Diane Warren), “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick (Lady Gaga, Bloodpop) and “This Is A Life” from Everything Everywhere All at Once (Ryan Lott, David Byrne, Mitski).
Although Tems did not win, she is still the first and only Nigerian artist to be nominated for an Oscar.
