#PrayForNigeria: Davido, Runtown & Reekado Banks React To Lagos Fire Accident

Following the series of unfortunate events in the country, there is a soaring call for intercession. The #PrayForNigeria call is currently trending on Twitter and artistes like Davido, Runtown and Reekado Banks have joined the movement.

Some days ago, it was reported that 86 villagers were killed in the violent conflicts between farmers and herders in Plateau. The incident tagged “PlateauKillings” threw the country into a mourning state, with the masses, including celebrities, demanding for corrective action from the government.

Another heartbreaking news was reported yesterday. This time, it was reported that an accident involving a fuel tanker and several other vehicles happened on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. According to the report, the tanker carrying highly flammable fuel lost its balance which resulted in a fire outbreak that consumed the surrounding vehicles, claiming lives.

The series of sad events that has resulted in the loss of several Nigerian lives has caused the public to decry the state of things in the country. In the same vein, there’s an ongoing call on social media, for prayers for the nation tagged #PrayForNigeria, which the likes of Davido, Runtown and Reekado Banks have lent their voice to.

Davido, Olamide, Banky W React To Super Eagles’ Loss To Argentina & World Cup Exit

The sad result of the World Cup match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Argentine national team has sparked reactions from artistes like Olamide, Davido and Banky W.

The Nigerian national soccer team crashed out of the ongoing World Cup competition after falling to a 2-1 defeat to Argentina. The loss helped the Argentine soccer team to climb above Nigeria on the group table; and it sends them to the next round of the competition, which is the knockout stage.

Since the start of the competition, the Super Eagles received support from Nigerians, particularly artistes who have been celebrating the achievements of the team on their social media platforms. Some of these popular artistes used the same medium to react to the sad loss that brought an end to the World Cup campaign of the Super Eagles.

In his post on Twitter, Davido remained positive despite the loss. He stated the national team had a decent outing by writing, “we played well.”

Banky W also shared the same opinion as OBO. He wrote “Super Eagles forever!!! We played with heart today and that is always something to be proud of. “, in his Twitter post.

Olamide, in his own post, urged Nigerians to stop mourning the loss and move on to a more pertinent issue – the ongoing turbulence in the political sphere of the nation. His post had the tone of activism, as he asked questions that borders on the direction of the nation and welfare of the masses.

Meditation For Humility

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJIwQwJJlIg

Yoga prepares the body for meditation. And for me, the marriage of yoga and meditation is the ultimate invitation back to balance.

The route to inner strength and inner peace is through connecting to a higher power. It requires you to explore acceptance and humility.

Today, simply do your best to sit with yourself at this stage in your life, on this beautiful day.

NOTE: There is no soothing music in this one.

It’s all you, me, us.

Breathe.

And listen up.

I Can’t Beef Mocheddah, She’s A Child – Ruggedman

About a week ago, Ruggedman and Mocheddah had a clash on social media. The clash started with Ruggedman’s calling out celebrities who have been silent about the oppressive acts of SARS officers. Mocheddah reacted to the rapper’s social media post, telling him not to expect others to share his view of things and to stop forcing his belief and cause on other entertainers.

Although  Ruggedman did not respond to her comment, Nigerians had a field day tongue-lashing Mocheddah for her comment.

In an exclusive chat with Saturday Beats, Ruggedman was quick to state that he was shocked that a fellow Nigerian would make such a comment despite everything the SARS officers have done.

He added that he had no issues with Mocheddah as he likened her to a kid. Ruggedman said;

“I really would not want to take issues with anyone at this time because I am currently putting finishing touches to my Ruggedman’s Twentieth September Wears clothing line as I am set to unveil its first hoodie and new t-shirt designs. However, Mo Cheddah and I do not have a beef; why would I have a beef with a child? The first and only time I ever saw her was when she ran to my car somewhere in Maryland to tell me that she loves my songs and she is my fan. That was the first and only time I met her. I cannot have any issues with her. If I have issues with anyone who is fighting a good cause, I would not use that cause to display any negative thing. What she did is just unfortunate but she was really tongue-lashed by Nigerians and celebrities. I was very happy that celebrities also condemned what she said. She was very wrong. But like I told someone, her comment helped us to propagate the word the more. That is what I picked from the whole encounter and not what she said because that does not really matter to me.”

He said that when he first saw her comment, the first thing that came to his mind was that she must have been ‘on something’.

“When I saw Mo Cheddah’s reply to my call on SARS, the first thing that came to my mind was, ‘what is she on?’ Any well-meaning Nigerian would understand what I am saying. She said something like ‘I am trying to force my belief on people,’ what does she mean by my belief? I am not talking about religion, instead I am speaking for the innocent people that are being brutalised and not Ruggedman being brutalised. She also said something about me not forcing people to fight my cause. How is it my cause when it is other people that are being brutalised? I am actually fighting other people’s cause. The bottom line is that if she really did not have anything to say, she should have kept quiet, sadly for her, she was tongue-lashed by Nigerians and that is why I did not say anything about her comment.

Till now, I still don’t understand why she would make such a statement but I am not bothered because what I am fighting for is bigger than anybody’s comment. I am sure that when she saw the response from Nigerians, she knew that she had messed up but ego would not let her delete the comment. It is just like the video she later did where she was insulting people. Although she later deleted it, unfortunately, it was too late for her because the bloggers had picked it up.

Habits That Might Ruin Wizkid’s Career

Art is such a thing of beauty, meant to be valued and appreciated. People commonly find beauty in works of art and they appreciate them by passing compliments. Sometimes they go as far as paying a few (or a lot of) bucks just to have the right to keep the piece of art whose beauty has been registered in the heart.

Beyond these two forms of appreciation of art, giving out awards is another way to appreciate good works of art, especially if the awards are given based on merit, without bias or sentiment. That’s the idea behind awards like The Grammys & Golden Globe.

Music being a form of art is usually appreciated through compliments, paid for with scarce resources, and in fact huge and expensive events are held to celebrate excellence & brilliance in the art of music making. Artistes and their works are gathered, grouped, rated and the best in the different groupings are awarded for their respective standout materials.

I believe that’s the concept of the Headies Awards, SoundCity MVP Awards and the other prestigious awards that Wizkid has snubbed over the years. If it happened once it could have been a mistake. Twice – it could have been an unfortunate event but the consistency with which Wizkid treats Nigerian award ceremonies with contempt, suggests that it is a habitual thing.

Anyone following the music industry in Africa would agree Wiz is amongst the most frequently nominated artistes on the continent. The Starboy has been named on the nominee’s list of different awards, in different categories but he consistently snubs the events. It seems Wizkid has convinced himself to think that he is bigger than African music awards but even at international award ceremonies and events, Wizkid is usually absent.

Weezy’s failure to perform at the Coachella Music & Arts Festival epitomises his habit of absenteeism and unprofessional acts. His excuse was that he couldn’t secure visa for his band members but that has the sound of a late minute arrangement.

With enough time before the event, Wizkid had multiple options – one was to try multiple attempts to sort out visa issue, if that fails, set-up a makeshift band in US (where the event held) and prepare well enough to deliver a groundbreaking performance. If all that fails, inform the organisers of the event early enough of your challenges and inability to make it to the event, so the general public could be fed beforehand with the gist that there’s no Wizkid performance happening at Coachella.

Sadly none of these logical options was taken and it is even more sad that the manner with which Wizkid & his management communicated the botched Coachella performance reeks of disrespect especially to his fans who sing his chorus, praise him on Twitter and defend him with their best words during music debates – first he promised to makeup for his initial failure, the promise wasn’t kept and he just hushed like he didn’t just (figuratively) disappoint a whole continent.

Silence! Really? The millions of Wizkid fans across the globe who were looking forward to seeing their star singer wow the same audience as Beyoncé, while also showing to the world a side of Africa that is uniquely beautiful, deserve an explanation. If truly Wizkid cares about them like he claims on social media and during interviews he would have given reason for dashing their hopes not once but twice. But does he even care at all?

During a press briefing, Wizkid explained that he does not attend international awards (and perhaps events) that do not respect African artists; but then he treats Coachella and his fans with so much disrespect. How about the tens of native awards that he refused to attend or even acknowledge? Isn’t respect supposed to be reciprocal?

Around the tail end of last year, Wizkid was named “Young Person of the year” at The Future Awards Africa (TFAA) 2017. The prize was perhaps the biggest of the night, as it had the brightest young creatives on the African continent in the list of nominees.

However, Weezy, the eventual winner was absent at the event. The award, TFAA isn’t BET, it isn’t MOBO, it is an award organised by Nigerians to acknowledge inspiring young Africans making a difference through social good and creativity, and it would have been complimentary to have  the biggest winner of the night honour the awards.

I believe Wizkid was in town at the time of the award. I believe he was notified of his nomination and he was well aware of the details of the event but he did not show up, and surprisingly, he didn’t show any sign of appreciation for the TFAA Awards particularly, not even the social media displays that they (artistes) often do and like he did for his MOBO Award.

His reason for not attending the TFAA Award ceremony and the tens of other awards ceremonies he has snubbed remains a quiz. It has raised further questions like; does he not see awards as validation? Is he too big for these awards? Or can’t he stomach watching other nominees beat him to awards? Or does he just snub awards for fun?

Whatever Wizkid’s reason(s) for snubbing awards is(are), the frequency of his snubs does not project him as a creative who takes feedbacks and critiques seriously or enough to channel them into bettering his craft and it could turn out to be the ultimate hunter of his precious art.

Dremo & YCEE – Who Is The Next Hip-hop King?

From time to time, we notice changes in the style of music we listen to. Hip-hop music has experienced a switch from the time of hardcore rap music to the new era of trap-styled hip-hop music.

Even in Nigeria, a trendy rap style has been fairly dominant with YCEE and Dremo being at the forefront of this new school rap style. YCEE showed his rap prowess on songs like Juice and Jagaban while Dremo has impressed with his delivery on songs like Fela and OjereHowever, assuming you were to win a million dollar, which of the two rapper would you pick to occupy the seat of new school rap – YCEE or Dremo?

Davido Finally Responds To Question On Ownership Of Air OBO

Davido has reacted to the question on his ownership of a private jet. About a month ago, the singer announced the acquisition of a jet and called it Air OBO. A report later circulated online that the singer doesn’t have 100% ownership of the jet and that the story was only hyped to boost the value of singer’s brand.

After the initial jet ownership saga, Davido was relatively quiet over the issue. However, he was made to react to the topic recently when one of his Twitter followers asked him about Air OBO. The DMW man responded in a jocular manner, saying “e dey ground yakata… but as dem no wan gree say we get .. us sef gree say we no get … ???”

Mr. 2Kay Shuts Down Port Harcourt As Elevated Concert Records Massive Turnout

Singer Mr. 2Kay marked a milestone with the successful outcome of his Elevated Concert held at Aztech Arcum Event Centre, Stadium road, Port Harcourt on Sunday June 17, 2018. The sold out concert surpassed expectation as the singer delivered an experience that his PH fans will not forget in a long while.

The event which was co-hosted by ace broadcaster, Olisa Adibua and Alex from Big Brother Nigeria started with a packed hall at about 6pm. A good number of Port Harcourt’s young talents filed out one after the other to open the show before UK’s popular radio host and hype man, Shope Shopsy took over alongside DJ Kev.

The heat of the event stepped up as Mavin’s DJ Big N took over the turntables. He got the crowd warmed up before Olisa and Alex introduced the legendary DJ Jimmy Jatt who grabbed the mic to personally perform his classic hit – “Stylee” before sweating the packed hall.

Mr. 2Kay stepped out for his first set in white traditional attire along with his band amidst cheers from the crowd at about 10pm. He welcomed and appreciated the highly excited guests before opening with his prophetic single, “Pray For Me” off his latest Elevated album. 2Kay and his live band served some of his classic hits such as “Bubugaga”, “Waterside Boy”, “Bad Girl Special”, “Count it All Joy”, and “Who No Like Better Thing.” He also did a tribute performance of Rex Lawson’s song “So Ala Temen” before comedian MC Lively ‘interrupted’ the event flow in his usual style. After that, Dan the Humorous and other comics – Brodashaggi and Masterkraft (David Skima), K O BABA, thrilled the audience with their funny theatrics and banter.

The show continued with Mr. Accolades, Charles Okocha and his Hype man as he performed his popular songs, “Shove it” and “Accolades”. Self-acclaimed Port Harcourt’s first son, Duncan Mighty took over and then passed the mic to Mr. 2kay.

Fans enjoyed the thrilling performances by 2Kay who continued with more popular tunes including “Belema”, and “Moniegram.” The singer introduced Timaya on stage who continued with the pumped crowd before Harrysong took over. Other acts of the night were Grafton Records act, Idahams, Doray, Young GreyC, Squeeze Tarila, Legendary Sunny, Ajebo Hustlers, Maxi, Fortune, and King Perry. There was also a throwback session that featured MTrill and Korkormikor.

Davido Or Wizkid’s Album, Which Are You Anticipating The Most?

Over the years, we have seen upcoming artists come and go; they drop hit songs and become famous then after a while, they fade. This is not the case for Wizkid and Davido, right from their entrance into the music industry with hits, these two have been very consistent and it has kept them at the top for so long.

Earlier this year Wizkid announced that he is working on his fourth album titled “Made In Lagos” and the singer has hinted the 10-track album will have no features.

If their word is anything to go by, we will for the first time have a Wizkid and Davido album drop in the same year. The question is, of these two albums, which one are you anticipating the most?
