Burna Boy’s African Giant Album Is A Proof Of His Versatility – TX Review
Burna boy has made himself a household name in the Nigerian music industry especially with his spontaneous rise to fame in the year 2018 which was a good year for him especially with the release of his outside album earlier in 2018. Many people stumbled on that album mistakenly while searching for the “YE” album by Kanye west and that kick-started of an awesome year for Burna boy which he ended with his sold out concert in 2018.
The resolution for 2019 was “this year we are killing dem sha” and honestly speaking Burna boy has done a good job of ‘killing’ us with awesome songs.
On Friday 26th of July, 2019 while the music industry was fast asleep, he released his album for 2019 which he titles “African giant.” The album bothers on Nigeria as a country and how she falls short of the African giant title. The album talks about how corruption has eaten deep into the government of Nigeria and how it is killing the country gradually. In as much as the album talks about governance in Africa, there are still some songs that center on love and affection.
Burna has been able to use his voice as a celebrity to speak against the tyranny of bad governance while giving us a perfect blend of love, fun; this is one thing many Nigerian artistes find difficult doing.
“African giant” is also a song on the album just as it is the name of the album. The song has a nice sound, awesome production, nice vocals. He definitely did justice to this one and picked a perfect intro into the album.
“Anybody” was a follow up to his first single of the year 2019 “dangote” anybody has been a major hit since it release on the 13th of June 2019. The song has a simple message saying anybody refusing to get in the groove “knack am something”.
“Wetin man go do” give us the fela vibe; the song talk about how man has to struggle to get almost everything he wants. Basically saying this life is a hustle.
“Dangote” is the song that started the year for Burna boy and it appeared on countdown for weeks, definitely a great song.
“Gumbody” is one song that switched things up, he featured Jorja smith and they gave us an awesome blend of vocals. This song talks about his attraction to a certain lady he watching through his dark shades in the club.
“Killing dem” featuring Zlatan also appeared on the album, it’s the hit track he used to end 2018 and also start 2019.
Just like gum body, the song “Omo” talks about an attraction to a female. I see this as a “relief” as it gives us something to say “awwwwwn” about and present a different story from the album.
“Secret” is also another song which is not the regular love song, in this case Burna boy wants to keep this love affair a secret as it is a forbidden, one maybe.
“Collateral damage”, this song just talks or speaks the mind of the masses and talks about how the masses suffer for the corrupt practices of politicians.
“Another story” talks about the Nigerian history and how the country started to decline after the colonial masters. This song has a lot of meaning, Burna boy has shows his lyrical prowess in this one. The message and the sound all combined makes the song an awesome one for me.
“Pull up” is another song like gumbody and others. Favorite part was off “Burna ma kpa mi now” translating to Burna don’t kill us now.
“”Blak ryno” is a short intro for the song “destiny” which is another soulful song talking about how no one can bring him down and how he is living up to his destiny.
“Gbona” and on the low also appeared on the album. These songs were released after the outside album of 2018 and were also great follow-ups to the album.
“Different”, an awesome track which gives a bit of reggae sound and it talks about how different people/individuals are in the society.
“Show and tell” is one of those song i see as album filler, on this song he works with future an American rapper. It sounded like trap music which is definitely not Burna’s style so I personally don’t see this song as an highlight on the album expresses Burna’s music versatilty.
“This side” featuring YG talks about life and how things are with him and how he lives on his ‘side’.
“Spiritual” has a message from Burna which he used to wrap up the album. He says “every black person should always remember that they were first Africans before they became anything else”.
In summary, the album is nothing but spectacular. Burna boy has proven himself to be one if the few artistes who can take over from the legend Fela.

5 Popular “One-Hit-Wonder” Artistes In The Nigerian Music Industry
Coming into the music industry with a big bang and proving to being a product of longevity are two different things. A “one-hit-wonder” is an artiste that achieves mainstream popularity often for only one piece of work and becomes known by the general public for only that momentary success which overshadows their other works. The Nigerian music scene is one platform that takes a lot of consistency to stay in the game. Some artistes have given us great hit songs and we realized only few have been able to make it far by consistently dropping songs worthy to be called hit songs. The following is a list of five “one-hit-wonder” artistes
MR REAL
This is one of the most recent “one-hit-wonder.” It seems this artiste only made limelight due to the shaku shaku trend because ever since then he has not released any song that has been able to walk in the footsteps of legbegbe. Legbebe enjoyed massive airplay in 2017 but it seems MR Real’s talent went with the shaku shaku trend.
SUGAR BOY
Sugar boy made his debut in 2016 with the release of hit party song hola hola. This song enjoyed massive airplay nationally but ever since then he has not been able to match up to his first single.
KOKER
You all remember the slang “kolewerk” right? Well since then koker has not been outshine his past glory. Koker show of craftsmanship in the song kolewerk made many anticipate more from him but unfortunately none of his songs could top kolewerk.
It has been over 4 years since ayo jay released his jam your number featuring Chris Brown but it seems is not working for him because even though he was very talented he has not been able to stay In the music scene.
SOUL E
2006 to 2019 is well over a long time for an artiste to release a follow up track. After the first song “soul e baba dey here” many believed Soul E was here to stay but after less than two year fame he has fizzled out of reckoning.
There are other one hit wonder artistes we forgot to mention, but you can join the conversation by leaving a comment below

Juls Ushers In Summer With New EP, “COLOUR”
‘COLOUR’ BY JULS IS THE EP OF THE SUMMER
Known for his minimalist afropop beats, producer and DJ, Juls is about to heat up the summer with his new EP, ‘Colour’. The 10-track body of work takes a unique approach to Afrobeats. Mellow afrobeats, and a slowed down tempo defies the up beat format of this genre.
The EP includes the recently released single hits ‘Cake’ featuring long time collaborator and Afrobeats sensation, Mr Eazi and, ‘Slow Down’, featuring Jamaican Dancehall DJ, Agent Sasco. Fans will be receiving a collaboration-packed EP as Juls teams up with Kida Kudz, Ms Banks, Falz, and Oxlade to deliver his recent body of work.
Having grown up between Clapton and the Ghanaian capital of Accra, Juls has played an instrumental role in the rise the Afro-pop movement, establishing his sound through collaborations with the likes of Mr. Eazi, Burna Boy, Wande Coal, Maleek Berry and Kojo Funds.
Considered one of the hottest producers right now, Juls has been instrumental in the development of popular Afrobeats artist, Mr Eazi’s sound. In 2012, the pair connected via Twitter and didn’t meet until 2015. This led to Juls producing hits such as, ‘Bankulize’, ‘Hollup’, ‘Skintight’, and ‘Shitor’, and ‘Anointing’.
With ‘Colour’, Juls intends to demonstrate his versatility as an artist who is inspired by a rich blend of sounds, from his parents jazz and highlife records to the hip-hop, grime and garage that he’d obsess over with his friends. Juls is a world-renowned DJ, having played sets at SXSW in Austin, Texas, opening for Lauryn Hill’s ‘Diaspora Calling’ show in New York and performing at Afrorepublik in front of 20,000 people at the O2 Arena, as well as running his own weekly radio show on U.K. radio station, Rinse FM.
With Juls’ first album ‘Leap of Faith’ packed full of hits, we have high expectations for ‘Colour’. You can listen, stream and download ‘Colour’ HERE

10 Biggest Most Powerful Song Remixes In The History Of Nigerian Music
There are a few reasons why music artistes decide on doing a new version of a particular song which is popularly known as remix. Some of the reasons are either to make the song trend a little more after a disappointment of the original, to give-in to the demands of listeners who feel they haven’t gotten enough from the original as it may have sounded so pleasantly or to do it with a greater artiste if the opportunity presents itself.
Whatever the reasons maybe, there are song remixes in Nigeria that have been released and have done fantastically well even more than the original records, they are the biggest Nigerian song remixes of all-time and we have brought them back to refresh your memories.
A list of 10 Nigerian song remixes have been drafted below and these songs have been considered by us the biggest Nigerian song remixes of all-time.
10 biggest song remixes in the history of Nigerian music
“Bizzy Body” – P-square
This electric song was released by P-square as the remix to their 2005 hit single, “Busy Body.” It features veteran female rapper; Weird MC and it became so big that there arose confusion regarding which was bigger between it and its predecessor.
“Shoki Remix” – Lil Kesh Ft Davido
At a time when Lil Kesh was gradually getting to be a favourite of many with his dance-inspired hit single, “Shoki,” his then label boss; Olamide sought the need to feature Davido on the remix of the song in order to make the effect more piercing and it achieved exactly that. Davido did a twist on the song and took it to a new whole level. Huge song!
“Girlie O Remix” – Patoranking Ft Tiwa Savage
Arguably the biggest song Patoranking has done; this remix was a huge upgrade to the original version sung alone by Patoranking. It became so huge that even a lot of music fans do not even know this song to be a remix.
“Joor Oh Remix” – Jahbless Ft Ice Prince, Reminisce, Durella, Ruggedman & Eldee
This song became an instant hit single when it was released, making the original song feel like it was never released. The song pioneered what later became a nationwide slang even amongst those that were not music fans. Considered one of the greatest song remixes of all-time, the 6 artistes on it did absolute justice to the record.
“Chop My Money Remix” – P-square Ft Akon
The original to this song can be regarded as a certified hit but the remix got entirely insane. Securing the services of Senegalese-American singer; Akon, P-square made sure no stone was left unturned with the wonders this song did as it became so big nationally.
“Osinachi Remix” – Humble Smith Ft Davido
A qualified choice for this list, this song became even bigger than its original featuring Phyno. Thanks to Davido’s controversial verse, It became so popular amongst a lot of music fans and one that many found hilarious as it sought to ridicule a popular Lagos-based business magnate whom at that time was an ‘enemy’ to the DMW boss. considered by many as one of the biggest song of 2016, it deserves a spot on this list.
“123 remix” – DJ Neptune Ft Dagrin, Naeto C & MI Abaga
An Hip-Hop single that shook the nation, DJ Neptune brought together three of the biggest rappers of the industry at that period and made sure they combined and delivered their bars and lines smoothly on this jam. This is a remix that in a thousand ways shows superiority over its original.
“Oyi Remix” – Flavour Ft Tiwa savage
This is one song that actually did so well in terms of popularity for both Flavour and Tiwa Savage. Tiwa in the East gathered a lot of fans while Flavour made the hearts of so many in the South-West. Definitely one of Flavour’s biggest song, you would hardly believe it’s not a remix because the original to many people does not exist. Wonderful record!
“Temper Remix” – Skales Ft Burna Boy
Burna Boy made this song look like it’s an entirely new composition as he took the original song, broke it to pieces before fixing it bit by bit. The original song didn’t sound any appealing to music listener’s, but Skales made arguably one of the smartest decisions of his music career to feature Burna and it worked so well. This song due to the new vibe and pattern attached to hit became a certified banger.
“Rainbow Remix” – 2face Idibia Ft T-Pain
Legendary 2baba on this blissful R & B record, sought the efforts of US singer, T-Pain on this song and it ended up being the wisest of decisions. An already big tune, but the remix to this song made the song even more noticed and appreciated. In awe of T-Pains’s verse on the song, many Nigerian music followers fell in love with the song and made it a-must-listen to each time the feeling of expression of love set in their hearts.

‘I Was Not Trying To Be Disrespectful’ – Maj On Changing The Lyrics To Beyonce’s “Brown Skin Girl”
The internet was abuzz with activities following the release of Beyonce’s Lion King Album which featured a couple of Nigerian acts to include Wizkid and Yemi Alade.
“At the end of it all, we are all black women. We face the same struggles and have to overcome the same obstacles. Changing the lyrics to Light Skin Girl was never meant to be divisive…it was all about my desire to see myself in the celebration of melanated beauty.”
On the negative responses received, she said; “I’m most disappointed that me changing the lyrics was seen as disrespect to the overall message of self-love and pride in one’s complexion,” she said.
She added, “However, I am an artist, and if nothing else, this has blasted open the doors on the conversations about colorism and inclusion; self-hate and self-love. If I can ever be a part of something that brings dialogue to the forefront, I’m for it.”

Huge Unrest On The Internet As Tiwa Savage Blasts Trolls With Her Savage Replies On Twitter
Tiwa Savage broke the internet with her savage replies to twitter trolls and it was quite entertaining.
Over the weekend, Nigerians and Kenyans had a war on Twitter and some fans used the opportunity to bring up the Tiwa Savage Versus Victoria Kimani drama.
Tiwa Savage upon seeing this decided to preach love and peace by tweeting a picture of herself holding the Kenyan flag and a twitter user ridiculed her by stating that Nigerians have handed her over to Kenyans.
The truth is NOBODY actually wins when we fight ? it’s all love from this side #OneAfrica #OneLove ?? pic.twitter.com/6GfPv8wqTg

Yoga Tips for the Hands
Optimal alignment and weight distribution in the hands and wrists are very important. This is a body part that is susceptible to injury and arthritis if not properly taken care of due to there being so many joints here. This is also an area where many yogi’s often experience wrist fatigue or pain. In this 18 min workshop style practice, Adriene guides the proper hand placement in poses like downward facing dog as we work to bring some awareness to the sweet hands and wrists.
Stretch out the fingers, warm up the wrists, and set up for success with a strong foundation.

Burna Boy’s “Anybody” Vs DJ Tunez’s “Gbese” Ft Wizkid – Which Is A Better Afrobeat Record?
Dj Tunez’s latest single “Gbese” featuring Wizkid and also Burna Boy’s “Anybody” are two interesting Afrobeat tunes that dropped some weeks back.
Since these two songs got released, there have been big rave about them as well as arguments developing as to which is a better tune.
“Anybody” can be partly said to be an inspiration from Fela’s pattern of music which many acknowledge to be a fantastic effort while “Gbese” which is dominated by Wizkid’s vocals is an high-life inspired record that also sounds wavy too.
However, with the inevitability of comparison in our music industry, we have decided to compare the two records by asking you below which you think the better song is between two records.

Lyrics “Another Story” – Burna Boy ft. M.anifest
Burna Boy ft. M.anifest – Another Story Lyrics
[Prelude]
To understand Nigeria, you need to appreciate where it came from
Narrator: In 1900, Britain officially assumed responsibility for the administration of the whole of what we now know as Nigeria from the Niger Company
And then, gradually over the years, British protectorates were established throughout the territory
In 1914, the protectorates were amalgamated into one Nigeria
Actually, there’s one additional detail that bears mentioning
In order to take over the territories from the Niger Company, the British Government paid 865,000 pounds
A huge amount in 1900
So let’s establish a simple truth, the British didn’t travel halfway across the world just to spread democracy
Nigeria started off as a business deal for them, between a company and a government
Incidentally, the Niger Company is still around today
Only it is known by a different name, Unilever
But that’s another story
It’s Kel-P vibes
[Hook Burna Boy]
Ay!

Burna Boy Announces 7th Body Of Work: “African Giant”
The year started off great for the Afrofusion artiste Burna Boy with hits like “Killing Dem”, featuring Zlatan, “Dangote”, “Anybody” and “Pull up”, which was released on Monday 22nd July 2019. This 7th body of work is a testament to his development and growth as an artist.
It is often said, both in religious texts and folklore, that the number 7 is an auspicious sign from our guardian angels that one is on the right life path. It means one will overcome all obstacles and realize success in all endeavors.
Every song on this album stands out, from the musical arrangement to the message which is both introspective and thoughtful.
We are treated to the sounds of the motherland – Africa, with collaborations from Grammy award-winning musicians Angelique Kidjo and the “Junior Gong,” Damian Marley on the track “Different” and features from a cross selection of critically acclaimed artists like M.anifest from Ghana, Jeremih, Future and YG from the United States, Jorja Smith from the United Kingdom and Jamaican dancehall artiste Serani.
Known for philosophical messages of holding steadfast to achieving one’s dreams, standing up for the right and just, calling out bad leadership and rising up to change our society, Burna Boy presents this album artwork with hidden details, clues, and tributes. The album artwork is inspired by the first Nigerian Ten Naira note on which Alvan Ikoku, one of Nigeria’s foremost educationists, free primary education activist and advocate for learning/gaining knowledge was immortalized for his belief in one’s ability and right to be free to pursue a better life. Some other clues and tributes are “BB 7” – Burna Boy 7 representing his 7th body of work; serial style numbers representing his date of birth, images of his Grandfather, Father with him as a baby depicting generational transition, stack of gold coins suggesting a single African currency backed by gold making it the strongest currency in the world and the image of Burna Boy which depicts the true African Giant whose values are a combination of some of Africa’s greatest leaders from Obafemi Awolowo to Nelson Mandela to Muammar Gaddafi and Fela Anikulapo to name a few.
The road to the African Giant album started with the African Giant tour with performances at The Apollo Theater NYC, Coachella, The Ends festival, Afro-Punk to being named Apple’s Up Next artiste to winning a BET Award and then a live performance on The Jimmy Kimmel Live Show.
On Tuesday, July 23, 2019, in Los Angeles, California Okay Africa, and Hennessy hosted a listening party for the album
Burna Boy is currently on the second leg of his African Giant Tour with his band.
