In 2019, the Nigerian music scene was blessed with a lot of music. From the A-Listers and industry weights to the newbies topping charts, it was evident that the music scene is evolving and would never remain the same.

Thousands of records were released but some were able to stand out and capture the hearts of music lovers. In no particular order, these are the 30 best songs of 2019

Fireboy DML – “Jealous” 

Produced by Cracker, “Jealous” was all it took for YBNL’s music act, Fireboy DML to rock the Nigerian music industry. The track which has over 10 million views on Youtube snagged the most coveted number one spot on music charts across the continent for weeks and is still a staple in the music scene.

Burna Boy – “Anybody”

Released off his critically acclaimed 2019 album ‘African Giant’, Burna’s “Dangote” is basically about hustle, youth unemployment, day-to-day challenges, and the incessant pursuit for money. Since the billionaire that the song is named after is still working to get richer, Burna Boy feels he also has to work harder.

Naira Marley – “Opotoyi”

A tune dedicated to the curvy and sexy members of the Marlian fan base, Naira Marley’s “Opotoyi” was released during the time the singer was having arguably the biggest challenge of his career. It wasn’t difficult for the street banger to become widely accepted and an instant hit because it was engineered for the attention of Zanku lovers.

Rudeboy – “Reason With Me”

Rudeboy dished this huge track which is arguably the biggest hit he has released since he went solo. Produced by his go-to producer, Lord Sky, the song carries a very strong message which is experienced in all relationships among humans. This track topped charts and still gets played constantly on the radio. Its visuals have over 60 million views on YouTube which makes it the music video with the highest views released in 2019.

Burna Boy – “Killin Dem” ft Zlatan

A Burna Boy and Zlatan collaboration are what fans are looking forward to again because of this track. It is basically a song about how talented they are, hence, the “killin’ dem” phrase. Although the audio was released in December 2018, the track continued to receive massive airplay and it further intensified after its visuals were released making it one of the hottest songs released in 2019.

Rema – “Dumebi”

This track served as a means to introduce the young Mavin singer to the music scene and he didn’t disappoint. Rema jumped on what was labeled a rejected beat to deliver one of the biggest tracks in 2019. It’s a song with a difference, swag, and exceptional vibe that can be enjoyed by anybody, both young and old. It also has 0ver 10 million views on Youtube and held the number one spot for several weeks in 2019.

T- Classic – “Nobody Fine Pass You”

After melting hearts with his 2018 hit single ‘Fall In Love‘ with DMW act, Mayorkun, T-Classic served it hot in 2019 with the release of “Nobody Fine Pass You”. The track tells the tale of an unfaithful and promiscuous lover who the singer can’t seem to get out of his head. T-Classic became a force to reckon with this track which was released earlier in 2019 and buzzed throughout the year.

Tems – “Try Me”

The super talented alternative singer, Tems blessed Alte kids and cool kids worldwide with “Try Me”. With this track, Tems took to the Alte’ sound to the next level. The track which is the biggest alternative song of 2019 helped further shaped the narrative of how the Alte music is perceived.

Davido – “Blow My Mind” ft. Chris Brown

Davido’s collaboration with American singer, Chris Brown certainly blew minds and broke records within a month of its release. The song in no time started breaking all previous records becoming the most streamed song on Spotify, setting records on apple music and iTunes charts, and also kicking hard on Youtube. Few days after the song dropped the Visuals also followed, within it the first 24hrs the video gathered a little above 2million views on youtube and made it to 7million views in its first week.

Naira Marley – “Tesumole”

Tesumole is off Naira Marley’s Afro-pop/Trap artiste’s debut EP, “LOL” (Lord Of Lamba). The Rexxie produced track is a fast tempo record that came with a banging dance step tagged Tesumole Dance. Naira says it’s a gospel track since you’re stepping on the devil but it’s one that would make you lose your home training upon hearing. It remains one of Naira’s greatest hits and is one of 2019 biggest songs which also rolled into 2020.

Davido – “Sweet In The Middle”

Sweet In The Middle is off Davido‘s ‘A Good Time’ album and was produced by Shizzi.  It became an instant hit off the album as it was loved by many due to its catchy lyrics “Sweet In The Middle” which speaks about the sweetness of a woman. Naira Marley‘s gentle vibe surprised everyone, and Wurld’s vocals made a major contribution to the song giving it a more international vibe.

Teni – “Billionaire”

Released in October 2019 to prior to the of her debut EP “Billionaire,”  the Dr. Dolor music princess and diva with quality production from Pheelz sings about wanting to be on Forbes List, live & dine with Royalties, wake up inside a Lamborghini, and roll with the likes of Dangote, Adenuga, and Otedola. The track was a smash hit just like every one of her other tracks because of the positivity the track preaches.

Naira Marley – “Soapy”

Naira Marley “Soapy” served as his sixth single of 2019 and it was released just days after his release from prison. The track produced by Rexxie after its release created a lot of controversies as people were divided on their opinions about the message in the song. The song didn’t come only with the video but was accompanied by a dance step called “Soapy dance” which is still currently trending worldwide. It also broke a national barrier by creeping to other African countries.

Olamide x Wizkid x ID Cabasa – “Totori”

Olamide and wizkid are best known for dropping hit songs back to back as the synergy between the duo are unmatched. “Totori” is a song that was heard on all radio stations, tv stations, and other music platforms topping home and abroad music charts. On the track, Wizkid didn’t fail in dishing out meaningful lyrics as he is heard saying “nobody wanna give and everybody wanna take”. This phrase is been used by many Nigerians to diss the stingy ones and girls that only love to receive and not to give out.

Fireboy DML- “Scatter”

The track which is off his debut album ‘Laughter Tears and Goosebumps’ buzzed since its release and disturbed music charts nationwide. With the audio produced by Pheelz and video directed by Clarence Peters, ‘Scatter’ is that perfect song that will put everyone in a party mood. When you listen to this record you can’t help but to get on the dance floor and scatter the arena.

Naira Marley – “Mafo”

Naira Marley landed with “Mafo” to motivate his disciples (the Marlians) and give them some courage. On the Young Jonn and Rexxie. produced record, Naira made use of catchy lyrics and slangs that the street wants to hear and could relate with. The track received massive airplay and the Yoruba word “Mafo” which means don’t be ‘Scared‘, has now become a popular slang amongst Nigerians.

Wizkid – “Joro”

After putting his huge fan base, the Starboy FC on a long wait, Wizkid broke his hiatus with the release of “Joro“. The song got production service from the producer with a special vibe, Northboi and pulled massive numbers both locally and internationally. Wizkid sings for his Lady, asks her to Joro i.e dance.

Naira Marley – “Am I A Yahoo Boy”

Naira Marley x Zlatan “Am I A Yahoo Boy” would absolutely pass for one of the most significant songs Naira would ever release in his music career. The Rexxie produced controversial led to a lot of other controversial events in the singer’s career. The song was well accepted by the youths and immediately became one of the biggest hit songs that the Nigerian music industry experienced in 2019.

Joeboy – “Baby”

Joeboy made his first major debut in the music industry through Mr. Eazi sponsored emPawa with the ‘Dera’ produced song ‘Baby’ and ever since then the song has been on everybody’s lips. The song topped A-listers on music charts, contending rigorously with every other hit song for the number one spot on every music chart since its debut. The song stayed as Nigeria’s number one track for a long time as it took months for it to go down.

IVD x Zlatan – “Bolanle”

Even before the release of this song, Bolanle became a major talk on social media after Zlatan shared the snippet. After the official track dropped, the song got quick attention, blew up, and rocked charts. The lyrics got everyone talking as it says Zlatan is ready to collect any lady who bears Bolanle from her stingy boyfriend and spoil her with money, treats, and cares.

Kizz Daniel – “Fuck You”

Released earlier in the year 2019, Kizz Daniel on this big controversial track delivered lyrics that shattered the music scene for months. It’s an emotional song that talks about how Kizz was emotionally derailed after his woman who he loves and believes in was seeing another man. Despite the fact, Kizz Daniel was cussing out his ex-lover, so many popular artistes did a cover of the song.  Some used it as a medium to shade, diss, and challenge their fellow artistes while some were just making freestyles. This covers contributed to the massive stream and airplay it received.

Skiibii – “Daz How Star Do” f. Falz x Teni x DJ Neptune

Released in March 2019, this track which features industry giants, Falz, Teni, and DJ Neptune became so big that some other Nigerian artistes did the cover to it just like Kizz Daniel’s “Fuck You”. It was very well streamed on all music digital platforms, music followers loved it and still love it to date.

Reekado Banks – “Rora”

‘Rora’ is a Yoruba word that means (Take It Easy/Gently) in English, the song is full of melody and strings. This is a track which is probably Reekado’s biggest hit left fans stunned with its sexy and sultry lyrics where Reeky pleads for mercy from a pretty lady well blessed with a heavy endowment, tells her to Rora (Easy).

Peruzzi – “Majesty”

Peruzzi “Majesty” song is beautiful and soulful music that touched the love life of listeners at the first listening. The track is from his underappreciated E.P, “Heartwork” released in November 2018.  “Majesty” did really well on radio and got a lot of streams due to the sweet love it prophecies.

Mayorkun – “True”

“True” is a love preaching track by DMW act, Mayorkun, and Flyboy Inc boss, Kizz Daniel. It was produced by Young John and Lussh Beats, released on the 1st of June, 2019. It’s the kind of song that gets that “awwn” and “Ohhs” reactions from ladies. The track received so much airplay on the radio and on TV and is still fans favorite.

Teni – “Power Rangers”

Teni released her second official single of 2019; “Power Rangers” on the 13th day of July 2019. Teni undoubtedly reiterated the fact that her vocal quality is top-notch and that is exactly why the song in a short time became the favorite of a lot of music followers. Nigerian radio stations, TV stations, and channels on paid cable platforms made sure listeners and viewers never missed the song for a long period as it was always played and shown frequently.

Davido – “Risky”

“Risky” is a remake of the laughable viral rap of the singer’s freestyle ‘Kilo Kan Mi’ which later became another continental hit since its studio rework by producer, Speroachbeatz. The musical features the vocals of Jamaican patois crooner, Popcaan. The track got so much airplay that its video reached 5million views in just 2 weeks.

Fireboy DML -“Vibration”

Off Fireboy DML‘s 2019 critically acclaimed solo debut album ‘Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps” is “Vibration“. The track became people’s favorite late 2019 immediately became a people’s first choice early 2020. It buzzed on top playlists and climbed music charts. Its was produced by IamBeatz (Wicked!). The visuals directed by TG Omori sees the artiste in several striking settings including a ballroom filled with skillful ballerinas dancers.

Joeboy – “Beginning”

After the successful release of his hit single “Baby,” Joeboy returned with “Beginning,” which was produced by Killertunes. Joeboy‘s “Beginning” captures that space between the friend zone and romance with its succinct refrain. Just like “Baby” this track did numbers and took the number one spot for a while.
