NBC BAN: My Songs Promote Hard Work Among Youths, Not Illegalities – 9ice
In a recent chat with Saturday Beats, 9ice expressed surprise that his song, ‘Living things,’ could be banned because according to him, most of his songs promote hard work among youths and not illegalities.
He further said that he was not aware of the ban till it was brought to his notice by Saturday Beats as he had been out of the country for various tours and gigs. “My song has been banned again?” he exclaimed.
The singer continued, “I am surprised that they banned my songs because most of my music is to inspire the youths to work hard and ensure they do things the right way. I don’t sing songs that would encourage anyone to do the wrong thing. I have been in this industry for a while and I know better than to do such because I know a lot of people look up to me in the society.”

‘Legbegbe’ Was My First Attempt At Making Street Music – Mr Real On ‘The Grill’
Blown music sensation, Mr Real is our guest on this video episode of The Grill.
Coming into limelight with his now continental single ‘Legbegbe‘, Mr Real talks us through the process that saw him into stardom. He starts out, sharing how an unplanned circumstance birthed the earth-shaking song, Legbegbe. He also revealed that that was his first attempt at making a street-type song.
Mr Real shared bits of his time as an R&B/dance hall artiste, and what the reception was like for his other songs pre-Legbegbe. This was the reason why he never thought the Shaku Shaku vibe was going to be a viral hit but he was proven wrong. He also spoke about D’Banj; winning on the C.R.E.A.M platform and working alongside Slimcase to create the collaborative track, Issa Banger.
It was quite shocking to find out that Mr Real is actually of Igbo heritage. Obviously he had to field questions where he defended his choice of Yoruba ‘lamba’ as his style of music.
You get to find out about all these and more other exciting reveals, when you watch Mr Real’s Grill session in the video below.

Brymo Goes Naked In ‘Heya’ Video, Twitter Reacts
Alternative singer, Brymo has become the talk of the town since the release of the video to his song titled ‘Heya.’ The new release has been met with mixed reactions with focus on his naked appearance in the video.
Brymo recently released his album titled “Oso” and he followed it up with the release of a video of ‘Heya’, one of the songs off the album. The new video contain scenes showing Brymo with no cloth on, but a G-string which he wore for most part of the video as he sang in parables about the failures of the African society, particularly Nigeria.
The video has since evoked reactions from Nigerians on Twitter, with the comments reflecting the division in the opinions of people who have seen the video which already looks like what would be talked about for a long time from now.

Brymo has never been known to flow with the tide, in an era when everyone is going commercial, rap artistes turning to pop overnight and those who once made sense embracing trash lyrics, Brymo stood his ground. pic.twitter.com/RpLpRi4w62

— Mr. Jack Robinson (@jackdre02) 28 March 2018
Maybe we actually need to go back to the basic fact that Brymo wasn’t wearing G-string and what he wore had traditional significance in the African culture. Call it a throwback wear and maybe, just maybe, you will see it for what it really is, Cultural Art! pic.twitter.com/KVxpcKA7j6

Happy Birthday Banky W – Send Your Birthday Wishes!!
The emergence of a certain US returnee named Banky W, on the Nigerian music scene came with a fair amount of doubt even though he quickly became a sensational singer with his release of ‘Ebute Metta’ (the cover of Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’). His intent with the song appeared to be a form of association with his Lagos mainland roots and an endearment to his potential fans, at the time. Interestingly, the idea clicked and Banky W was welcomed to the music community with open arms. It didn’t take long before he claimed the title of ‘Mr Capable’ and his charming looks soon made him a favorite for ladies.
Even with his popularity in the circle of female fans, the quality of his music stood him up out as an artiste of substance whose association with the likes of M.I Abaga and Eldee The Don produced moments that Nigerian music lovers still cherish. His vision to own a music label created a platform for the likes of Wizkid to takeoff and his immense contribution in other areas to the Nigerian entertainment industry, has placed him in the position of an icon.
Today, March 27th, 2018, as Banky W celebrates his 37th birthday, we at TooXclusive, choose to celebrate the legacy of the brilliant man who started out as a singer but has become a celebrated figure across the Entertainment industry including Nollywood. We wish him the best things of life. Happy Birthday Banky W.

[Video] WSTRN – “Love Struck” f. Tiwa Savage & Mr. Eazi
London-based group, WSTRN, releases the “video” to their boarder-crossing single titled “Love Struck”, on which they featured the duo of “Tiwa Savage” and “Mr. Eazi“.
The WSRN music band which consists of three singers namely Akelle Charles, Haile and Louis Rei, looks to increase their audience reach with their sights set at penetrating into the African music community where their guest artistes on ‘Love Struck’, Tiwa Savage and Mr. Eazi, command major influence.
The band which specializes in making Rn B and Hip-Hop music, strongly pursue their revolutionary cause to push their native sound to the center of global music, hence the inspiration behind their band name. The name of the three-man group, ‘WSTRN’, is often termed to mean western when it actually represents positive vibrations and according to the group members, it means that it is “West London‘s turn to shut down the scene”.
On ‘Love Struck’, WSTRN allowed their western music elements blend with the powerful Afro-pop melodies supplied by Tiwa Savage and the brilliant Mr. Eazi whose contribution added to the beauty of the record. The pop single has the potential to bring together a combined audience of the west and that of Africa to enjoy a common sound.

“Stop Deceiving Fans With Wizkid Collaboration, Come Clear Your Name” -Eric Many GM To Runtown
The legal battle between Runtown and his record label, Eric Many Records, is not over, according to reports.
The general manager of the label, Johnson Adumike has reacted to a post by Runtown on his Instagram stories hinting at a possible collaboration with Wizkid.
According to the report, Johnson was contacted to make clarifications on the legal action taken by the label against its artiste “Runtown,” after the singer posted some videos of his studio recordings on social media suggesting he is working on a new collaboration with Wizkid.
Johnson advised Runtown saying,
“Runtown, rather than deceiving your fans by teasing them with a collaboration which you do not have the legal right to release, what you should do is to get your lawyers to come up with legal documents to clear your name just like Kiss Daniel when he had a similar issue.
This is a way more matured approach than just throwing subliminals on social media.”
Johnson added that,
“its baseless pretending to the public when you clearly signed the dotted lines and its only right to be reasonable and keep your end of the deal.
And I Johnson Adumike will make sure that I inform the fans and followers of all proceedings and deliberations in court,so all interested parties can know current situation between Eric Many And Runtown at all times.”

He also shared tit bits from the association with Wizkid which already has given rise to a musical collabo due sometime in June as well as rumours suggesting he might be the next act tipped for a Starboy label signing.

5 Biggest Songs By Wizkid
Wizkid started his music career officially in 2010, since then, it has been nothing but organic growth for the Starboy whose music has broken past several boundaries. His career is still not a decade old but Wizkid is already being touted as the Nigerian artiste with the highest number of hit singles as well as awards, in his repertoire. The Starboy is widely believed to be unmatched in terms of International recognition. No wonder, he is nicknamed “the King of Afro-pop.”
After much deliberation, we have outlined the 5 biggest hit singles from Wizkid.
This is the song that went from a sleeper hit, to being an international pass for Wizkid’s career. Off the AYO (Joy) album which was released in 2014, Ojuelegba became a massive hit after Canadian rapper, Drake spit some bars on it.
A song outsourced from the deep roots of Afrobeat the genre, Wizkid and Femi Kuti channeled the later’s father signature sound to produce what was the biggest song in 2013.
Although Wizkid wasn’t the first to attempt musical expression on the Ghana-Nigeria sound, he was perhaps one of the very few artistes to popularize it. Azonto was released as a freestyle track but nobody cared, it went on to gather a heavy buzz across the continent and beyond.
Like every other artiste tries to achieve, Wizkid’s first official single under the now defunct EME label did more than just introduce him to the music scene. Holla At Your Boy gave us a glimpse of the star Wizkid would eventually become. Matetr of fact, it would be hard to omit this classic tune when discussing Wizzy’s career.
Another landmark song in Wizkid’s career. Come Closer is the Starboy’s biggest collaboration, the song was housed on his third album; Sounds From The Other Side (SFTOS), which was released in 2017.

“I Was Sleeping When I Heard About My Mother’s Death” – YBNL’s DJ Enimoney
During an interview with Sunday Scoop, Olamide’s brother, DJ Enimoney, revealed that he hadn’t been finding things easy since their mother passed on.
He said, “I miss my mother a lot as she was my source of inspiration. I wish she was here to celebrate my birthday with me. She always told me that things would be okay. Even though she is dead, I still feel she is still with me at all times. We don’t have parents again (their father died years ago) but God. I was sleeping when my elder sister called to break the news of my mother’s death.”
Speaking on a surprise birthday party held to celebrate him during the week, he said,
“I felt great, especially with the surprise birthday party. This was my first surprise party. I was deceived and taken away from my house for hours. Though I thank God for where I am at the moment and I am overwhelmed with the love I get from people, I still feel I have a lot to do. ”
At a time when things were rough for him, Enimoney admitted that he thought of quitting as a disc jockey. He studied Computer Engineering at Lagos City Polytechnic and contemplated working with his certificate. He added,
“When God says it is your time, then it is. When it is not your time, you can do many things at the same time and nothing will work out for you. There were times I thought of quitting disc-jockeying for a white-collar job. I was troubled and confused. Where I am today is just a stepping stone to where I am headed to. I know God has big plans for me. And since I became a father, I have been inspired to work harder.”
On the success of his ongoing tour, the DJ said,
“My tour is also going well even though there are some challenges. People need to look out for our new TV station, Voice Of The Streets (VOTS).”
Acknowledging the impact of Olamide’s support on his career, he said,
“Olamide has been supportive of my career and he made me who I am today. I thank God too because if He doesn’t want people to help you, it will not happen.”

NBC Bans Olamide, Davido, 9ice’s Songs
Less than 24 hours after the National Broadcasting Commission banned one of his recent songs, Wo, among others, from being played on the airwaves, popular rapper, Olamide Adedeji, has said that he never intended to cause harm to music fans with the song.
The rapper, popularly called Olamide, on Tuesday tweeted, “No intentions of promoting tobacco to get people killed. I love my people, I love my country. One love, one Nigeria.”
The NBC, on Tuesday, placed a ban on works by three of Nigeria’s top level music artistes for an alleged violation of its rules and regulations.
It named Olamide’s Wo and Wavi Level; a remix of Davido’s If and 9ice’s Living Things as the culprits in a current list of banned songs and music videos that it released to the public.
Although the commission did not give specific reasons for banning the songs, the decision may have been influenced by a recent reaction from the Federal Ministry of Health to the music video of Olamide’s new song.
Last Friday, in a message posted on Twitter, the ministry kicked against the video of Wo, released a few days ago and described the content as contravening the Tobacco Control Act of 2015.
The Ministry of Health also noted that the video contained scenes showing youths of different ages openly smoking substances believed to be either cigarettes or narcotics and concluded that such scenes could encourage second-hand smoking among underage children anywhere in the country.
However, this is the third time that the NBC has brought down its hammer on a popular song by Olamide.
The last time was 2016, when two other songs by the rapper were slammed for what the commission described as “obscene and indecent” lyrics.
Also, before the ban on 9ice’s Living Things, the song had been fingered as the subject of a statement by fellow rapper Falz, which urged Nigerian musicians in general to be mindful of the kind of messages that they passed to the public in their songs.
Falz had appeared to be genuinely concerned about the impact of such messages on the youth. He pointed out that artistes who saw nothing wrong about glorifying Internet fraud, drugs and other anti-social behaviour were not doing the society any good.

“I Do Not Want People To Think My Album Contain P-Square’s Songs” – Rudeboy
In a recent interview with Dotun of Cool FM, Rudeboy he made it clear that he won’t be changing his music style to suit anyone and he is in no rush to release an album.
During the interview, Rudeboy said that if anyone has a problem with his music direction, then they should be armed with $10m or keep quiet. He admitted that he had changed everybody around him especially in his management team and the friends he relates with but he decided to stay with his brother, Jude.
The singer said, “I thought of releasing an album this year, I changed my mind because if I do, most people would think it is from the 2017 group. I do not want to do that; instead I would rather continue the Rudeboy movement. Why would I release an album and when people listen to it, they begin to have different thoughts?
He said, “I struggle with the fact that I want to talk about myself alone but people want me to talk about both of us. As time goes on, it will fade off unless people start reminding me of that. Trust me, I have granted so many interviews and once somebody asks a direct question about the past, I tell them that I cannot answer that. I just don’t want to live in the past anymore, however, I’m sorry but the music would still be what it was like in the past. Right now, I want to push out my brand and my music which comes out about once every two months. If I release an album, some people would have heartbreak; so there is no need for that. Everything has changed for me even my circle. I am sorry but my brother Jude is still with me. I cannot change my music except you have $10m to offer me. But if you cannot do so, then shut up and listen to the music.”
He noted that he was not eager to do any collaboration but instead spend his strength and energy in pushing his brand.
“Everybody is good, I do not have a clique and fortunately, I am cool with every artiste, I do not have issues with anybody. Even in the past, it was me that they called if they wanted us to do songs together. I would rather not work with anybody for now because in the past, we hardly did collaborations. I am not proving anything; all I want to do is have a good idea, do a good song, dish it out to people and they would enjoy it,” said Paul Okoye.
Apparently, the feud between the singing twin brothers, Peter and Paul, formerly known as P-Square, is still waxing strong going by an interview granted by Paul now referred to as Rudeboy. The singer mentioned that he had nothing to prove to anyone as he revealed why he is not in a hurry to release an album.
He admitted that he had changed everybody around him especially in his management team and the friends he relates with but he decided to stay with his brother, Jude.
During the interview with Dotun of Cool FM, the singer noted that his sound would not change much and if anyone has a problem with that, then they should be armed with $10m or keep quiet.

K.Brulé Blows The Whistle On The Big Brother Naija Show; Talks Music And Life On ‘The Grill’
It was mixed feelings that followed the announcement of K.Brulé’s disqualification on the Double Wahala edition of the Big Brother Naija show. Thankfully, fate has decided to gift him (and other contestants alike) a second chance. But just before he may (or may not) be making it back into BB’s house come Sunday, we chatted him up during one of our Grill sessions and seized opporunity to put him right on the spot.
Blowing the whistle seemed to be the theme of this interview, as subjects including Mi-Na (Miracle & Nina), Cee-C, Alex, Rico Swavey and of course Khloe, were discussed in detail.
On the flip side, K.Brulé is a budding rap artiste who put his element to display by impressing with his talent, intellect and skill. He shared his aspiration, dreams and career prospects in rap; later addressing the suicidal topic that emanated from a failed stunt which he executed during his stint at the Big Brother house.
All these and more, you will enjoy watching!

[Song] Maire – “Kau Kau”
Maire returns with one of her best projects to date. She drops a new single titled ‘Kau Kau’.
Produced by DJ Psychotune, this is a deviation from the cute, girly Mairé everybody is used to. ‘Kau kau brings out and amplifies her tomboyish alter ego, which according to her, “is really me by the way.”
Mairé, the beautiful singer, has defy the norm in 2018. A sharp contrast to the sing along vibe of her well- received single ‘Bad’, ‘Kau Kau’ showcases an interesting retro Hip-hop flow. With lyrics like “If you try me my goons go physical,” it almost feels like we are in a street setting where Mairé is boss, and run things! This new path she has chosen may just be her good luck charm in this entertainment industry.

Is This How ‘Big Artistes’ Are Killing The Album Culture In Nigeria
The buzz around Rendevous, MI’s latest album, is yet to subside as it has continued to garner rave reviews by major industry heads and condemnatory remarks by a few others. The 15-track project which includes collaborations with Cassper Nyovest, AKA, Ajebutter 22, Wande Coal, Terry Apala and many others, is a bold statement from the Chocolate City boss who has been under a lot of scrutiny since his Fix Up Your Life rant.
That said, we could authoritatively assert that MI has thrown his hat into the ring with this body of work; which I can’t particularly say for a lot of artistes today due to the quality of albums we have been getting lately.
The evolution of albums in Nigeria would show that we have had some great ones from the likes of King Sunny Ade who got nominated twice for the Grammys; first in 1983 for his album, Synchro System and in 1988 for his collection of songs, Odu. Fast forward to May 15, 2004 when 2Baba dropped his first solo album under the Kennis music imprint titled Face 2 Face. Who could forget songs like Nfana Ibaga, U No Holy Pass, Right Here, Ole and the evergreen African Queen; with production by the likes of the late OJB Jezreel?
Another album within that period that shook the foundations of the Nigerian music scene was 9ice’s sophomore album, Gongo Aso with songs like Photocopy, Kind Life, Wedding Day, Street Credibility et al that catapulted the singer to international stardom. The genius of ID Cabasa on that album still remains indisputable.
Today, the optimism to buy albums isn’t as it was a few years ago. And have you noticed that the quality of music from a lot of our “major” artistes dipped after their first or second albums?
A lot of them sound monotonous, repetitious, void of depth and planning. You almost wonder what their A&R’s do. There’s also this craze for collaborations that almost makes the artiste seem insignificant as there is almost no track on his/her album with just them alone on it. Let’s not even mention the ones who sing R’n’B today, pop tomorrow, Fuji next tomorrow and are trapping the day after. Or is it the rappers who have becoming so comfortable singing with their terrible voices that you can’t really tell if their work is a pop, hip-hop or rap album?
The music industry today is very singles-dominated so full bodies of work don’t come by so easily; but you would expect that when they do, they would be masterpieces…or at least close. However the reverse is the case. If you ever listened to Wande Coal’s Mushin 2 Mo’hits album, you would think the ebony-skinned artiste was singing from his mother’s womb because he was that good. However, I am not so sure I would want to purchase an album from him now, especially if it’s going to have Funke or Turkey Nla on it. No freaking way!
Music is art. And as such, it should be meticulously and carefully done. Regardless of pressure from labels and other artistes, if you put proper time and energy into creating music, you could have one single whose relevance could span for months while the others drop their “indomie music” which usually fizzles out in weeks.
Banky W is a proper analogy to exhibit how possible it is to stay relevant without necessarily dropping music hastily. And yeah, can we pay more attention to the music this year, please? Let’s leave all the “freestyling” and baby lyrics with 2017.
It is a known fact that the music buying culture in these parts is not exactly great so artistes have to look to shows and endorsements for proper monetary reward; but we would get there eventually. Davido’s maturity in terms of instrumental selection, lyricism, consistency and delivery has blown me away. I am definitely looking forward to the next OBO album because I know it’s going to be pure fire! One can only hope the other artistes follow suit and do music right so when they put out albums, we would gladly support them by buying their music because we know we would be getting our money’s worth. Bikonu!
