Tiwa Savage Leads The Start Of A New Era For Women In Nigerian Music – “49-99” Video & Audio Review

Tiwa Savage 49-99

Olabimpe The audio is a bump already and having a mad video like this is a plus to it. Talk of classy and beautiful together, that’s what i feel of this video. Tiwa just showed to the world that her creativity is still top notch.

Everybody involved in the making of this video delivered 100%. From the costumier, the director, to the band and even down to the casts in the video everything is on point and obviously selected decisively. Personally, Tiwa’s hair is the highlight of the video for me, The story-line is second.

Olamide and Pheelz assisting in the songwriting process  further  give reasons why songwriting culture should be embraced in the industry.  In all the song and video is definitely the sort of projects Nigerians can always be proud of, it scores an hundred from me.

Ratings – 5/5

@neefe_nawti – When i first listened to the audio of this song, i was overly impressed and stunned as i was hit by the beat like Tiwa was hit in the studio. Olamide and Pheelz made magic with the queen and the sight can be plainly ‘seen’ on the record.

Moving on to the video, i was blown away when i watched it, the concept adopted by the director, Meji Alabi, further catapults the respect that i have for the creative. The professionalism by every contributor to/in the video can never be undermined. I personally feel videos such as this should be at the fore-front of nomination lists for ‘video of the year’ and yes, it means i am advocating that this video gets a nomination and if possible, wins it.

It’s a fantastic record and i hope it gets the attention that is worth the phenomenal effort that was put into it.

@Mahriam – Tiwa Savage channeled a whole different energy in “49-99” where she reminded us of the major issues affecting Nigeria as a country. It’s a wake-up call for the youths that want to get fast money and politicians that chase after young girls instead of making the country a better place.

The title of the song references the line “49 sitting, 99 standing” from Fela Kuti’s 1978 hit “Shuffering and Shmiling.” and It is common knowledge that Fela was an activist who made “undanceable” music solely for addressing issues facing the country. “49-99”, however, falls into this category but one can literally “Zanku” to the beat adding a large dose of uniqueness to the track. Tiwa Savage was able to fuse two elements into this track; making it danceable and also most importantly passing a strong message to Nigerians.

The visuals? Absolutely amazing! Music production, creative looks, delivery are all top-notch and not to forget the cute looking monkey. Meji Alabi has to be given accolades for bringing forth such an amazing video.

Music is a very powerful tool which has the ability to change one’s thoughts, emotions and most importantly to facilitate social change and I believe Tiwa intends to tell the world that Nigerians are suffering using this song as an avenue and also wants everyone to fight for a change

Tiwa Savage really went hard on this track and with this; she has once again proved that she is not only a prolific songwriter but also an iconic entertainer on an international level.

Although, I felt the hype before the song was released was too extravagant and unnecessary but i guess it’s still the “Blow My Mind” season because I was definitely blown away.  The wait for this song was definitely worth it. It’s a 10/10.
