Hot 2020 Nigerian Songs That Rocked 2021

There are songs, and there are songs, but these particular ones that made the list are songs worthy of accolades, and this is why we decided to bring forth a collection for your listening pleasure.

2021, came with loads of surprises, as well as, hit songs that kept our sanity in check. Saying we cannot get over those melodious tunes is an understatement, however, there are a couple of songs that were released in the year 2020 that still effortlessly rocked. The baddest of jams from the best in the game.

1. “Southy Love” – Peruzzi ft. Fireboy DML

Southy Love, a follow-up to Peruzzi’s “Isolova” is a melodious combination of Afropop, R’n’B, and Amapiano produced by P.Priime. YBNL’s star boy, Fireboy DML was employed on this track and he came with his full vibe.

Southy love is a song that encourages lovers to go all out to get that which they truly desire.

2. “Squander” – Falz ft. Niniola

Falz and Niniola did a joint that we cannot forget in a hurry even if we tried. The queen of Afro-house, Niniola Apata, came through to Falz The Bad Guy on this one dubbed, Squander, a self-explanatory title.

As the name implies, Nini and Falz sure squandered money on this track, that everyone wished they were in the music video. It’s 2021 and we are still bopping to the contagious tune.

3. “Jowo” – Davido

Off of his 3rd studio album (A Better Time), Davido comes through with a love song, titled “Jowo”. A song that preaches that when there is love, everything falls in place and even the toughest of walls can crumble. On the music video of this beautiful track, Davido featured BBN Season 5’s finest, Nengi Hampson, who showed off her acting skills in the music video.

Jowo is an evergreen track that rocked both the years; 2020 and 2021. It was produced by “Magicboi” Peter Arome Kehinde Emmanuel and “Napji” Jerry Jurbe Jethro.

4. “La La” – Davido ft. Ckay

Also coming off his 6th album, A Better Time, Davido thrilled his fans with this impressive tune dubbed, La La. Davido dropped this masterpiece as he enlists Nigerian Young talented artiste, CKay, who did justice to the song. CKay’s touch on La La cannot be brushed aside as many are of the opinion that he made the song litt!

5. “Ginger” – Wizkid ft. Burna Boy

If you want make i ginger give me the kokoro, Mako je bi Jollof

The catchy lyrics keep bouncing in your head no matter how much you try to distract yourself from it. Two kings coming together on a track like this is not something we see every day. Big Wiz features his industry brother, Burna Boy on Ginger, Off his 4th studio album, Made In Lagos.

Following the postponement of the Album release for close to 2 Years, Wizkid chooses October 30th to Release the most anticipated Album of the year. Ginger was co-produced by Kel-P and P2J.

6. “Essence” – Wizkid ft. Tems

Literally the biggest song out of both years, Essence remains the official song of the summer and the baddest of all time from Wizzy. The success of this single hit, off Big Wiz’s 4th studio album- Made In Lagos cannot be over-emphasised. Wizkid made this joint with Afrobeat fast rising act, Tems and it was indeed a success.

Essence is a love song that preaches contentment, love, and wholesomeness.

7. “Ko Por Ke” – Rexxie, Mohbad

KPK was the official anthem for December 2020, but its success and rave still filled into the year 2021. As we speak, KPK remains a Jam any time any day. The song was delivered by Marlian Record signee, MohBad, who got employed by Producer Rexxie.

8. “Cash App” – Bella Shmurda, Zlatan, Lincoln

Fine Boi Bella Shmurda came through with this addictive tune, Cash App in the year 2020, and we literally could not breathe without listening to this song.

Cash App was like the average Nigerian happy pill and it did a lot to distract us from our issues. Bella Shmurda, Zlatan, Lincoln created a monster hit with an epic video and Nigerians couldn’t be more thankful.

The song went viral in split seconds and boom, fans wouldn’t stop jamming to it.

9. “Hallelu” – Masterkraft Ft. Zlatan x Bella Shmurda

Award-winning beat maker, Masterkraft premiered the song  Hallelu as 2020 was rounding up. With the services of Zlatan and Bella Shmurda, Hallelu became a contagious melody.

The song, self-produced by Masterkraft is a thoughtful tune that implores one to be grateful to God for his blessings and favors in our lives.

10. “Kilofeshe” – Zinoleesky

Marlian Record signee, Zinoleesky proved his strength when he dropped a follow-up to his viral hit song, Ma Pariwo. With Kilofeshe, Zino gained momentum as he experimented with a different sound.

11. “Koleyewon” – Naira Marley

Naira impresses his fans with a thoughtful sound, dubbed, Koleyewon. This song took over the clubs, and streets in a jiffy suggesting a wide acceptance. 2020 sure birthed a host of amazing records, showing how much hard work intentional artists like Niara put in for the love of their fans.

12. “Abule” – Patoranking

Ace Nigerian artist, Patoranking released this hit song titled Abule in 2020. Produced by Telz, and released as a lead single to Patoranking’s 3rd Studio Album Tagged “Three” which was released on August 28th, 2020.

Abule may have been released back in the year 2020, but it sure did shake up the year 2021 a bit as well. The reggae artist never fails to deliver and is notable for his feel-good songs that always have a story behind them.

13. “Don Dada” – Timaya

Talented Nigerian Dancehall artist, Timaya knows how to entertain and at the same time educate his music fans. Don Dada, off his 2020 Album Tagged Gratitude Album was produced by Spotless.

14. “Enjoy” – Tekno

Cartel Music boss, Tekno came through with the official enjoyment song of the year 2020, “Enjoy” produced by Blaise Beatz. The song was released in December 2020 and topped the charts, causing it to go viral even further.

Of a truth, Tekno knows how to grasp the attention of his fans and when songs like this drop from him, they are always hits.

15. “Koroba” – Tiwa Savage

I no come this life to suffer

Queen Tiwa has us locked on this one for a very long time. The top-tier singer came through with the thoughtful song titled, Koroba back in 2020, serving as a follow-up to her previously released single titled “Dangerous Love”.

This song is a message to shut her haters up and literally advises her fans to do what makes them happy because people will always talk regardless.

16. “Mr. Money” – Asake

Me I no dey cap
Me I no dey form
My energy is high, What That Fuck?

Asake was born in South-Western, Nigeria. He appeared on Yhemolee’s tune; “Mon Cheri”. The song won the best collaboration at the City People Music Awards in 2020.

Mr. Money in 2020 served as a follow-up to his hit single, Lady.

17. “Holy Ground” – Davido ft. Nicki Minaj

Davido scattered the Nigerian music scene when he dropped Holy Ground, becoming the first to officially feature American rapper and singer, Nicki Minaj. At first, when the snippet of this song was released, the Afro-pop crooner had us guessing who the other person on the track was. Lo and behold, we had no idea it was coming to slap us hard.

Nicki went hard on this track as she displayed her versatility of being a singer, as well as, a rapper on this jam.

18. “Infinity” – Olamide ft. Omah Lay

Off the album, ‘Carpe Diem‘ which consists of 12-tracks and features the likes of Phyno, Peruzzi, Fireboy DML, Omah Lay, Bad Boy Timz and others, Infinity sits at number 3. A song about sex and love.

Olamide once again showed us how he can switch from the typical ghetto song, to one that will have you tumbling in love.

19. “Godly” – Omah Lay

Omah Stanley Didia, widely known as Omah Lay premiered the song titled Godly for his fans and music lovers all around the globe. Godly is the 3rd song off his 2020 sophomore EP Tagged ‘What Have We Done‘.

His debut EP, Get Layd EP was released on 22nd May, 2020 with 4 tracks. Currently, Omah is one of the fastest rising newbie in the music industry, dishing out what his generation- Gen Z want on a steady.

20. “Go Low” – L.A.X

Off Zaza Vibes the album, released in 2020, L.A.X shares this classic Amapiano groove titled Go Low. A dance track for the celebration season which will make y’all Go Low (Dance).

The Clemzy produced jam is perfect blend of Afrobeat and the widely loved, raving Amapiano sound. This track found its way to many playlist, stayed on repeat, turned favourite, burst speakers and surely make music fans loose control on the dance floor.

21. “The Best” – Davido ft. Mayorkun

Just as the name implies the song is literally the best out of Davido’s 3rd studio album, A Better Time. The song is a joint between the label boss, and his former signee, Mayorkun, who is now under Sony Music.

The Best is a jam for life no cap. It oozes so much positivity that you cannot help but love it.
